3D-modeling of deformed halite hopper crystals by Object Based Image Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Object Based Image Analysis (OBIA) is an established method for analyzing multiscale and multidimensional imagery in a range of disciplines. In the present study this method was used for the 3D reconstruction of halite hopper crystals in a mudrock sample, based on Computed Tomography data. To quantitatively assess the reliability of OBIA results, they were benchmarked against a corresponding “gold standard”, a reference 3D model of the halite crystals that was derived by manual expert digitization of the CT images. For accuracy assessment, classical per-scene statistics were extended to per-object statistics. The strength of OBIA was to recognize all objects similar to halite hopper crystals and in particular to eliminate cracks. Using a support vector machine (SVM) classifier on top of OBIA, unsuitable objects like halite crystal clusters, polyhalite-coated crystals and spherical halite crystals were effectively dismissed, but simultaneously the number of well-shaped halites was reduced. & 2014 Elsevier Ltd. The Alpine Haselgebirge Formation represents an Upper Permian to Lower Triassic evaporitic rift succession of the Northern Calcareous Alps (Eastern Alps). Although the rocksalt body deposits are highly tectonised, consisting mainly of protocataclasites and mylonites of halite and mudrock, the early diagenetic history can be established from non-tectonised mudrock bodies: Cm-sized euhedral halit...

Cutting samples from evaporite deposits of Member Two of Gachsaran Formation in well #1 at Ab-Teymure Oil Field have been studied by petrographic microscope, SEM with EDX attachment and XRD to identify the halite crystal shapes. This study led to recognition of three stages, including flooding, concentration and desiccation, for the formation of halite in salt pan. In the flooding stage, the fl...

Halite crystals were selected from a 186 m subsurface core taken from the Badwater salt pan, Death Valley, California to ascertain if halophilic Archaea and their associated 16S rDNA can survive over several tens of thousands of years. Using a combined microscope microdrill/micropipette system, fluids from brine inclusions were aseptically extracted from primary, hopper texture, halite crystals...

A facile and mild solution method has been discovered for the synthesis of complex PbTe hopper crystals in large quantities, which are highly similar to the cubic halite skeletal crystals formed from extreme supersaturation in salt lakes existing in nature. This route may provide a new approach to growing other complex semiconductor structures of high hierarchy.

Remote sensing technology is one of the most efficient and innovative technologies for agricultural land use/cover mapping. In this regard, the object-based Image Analysis (OBIA) is known as a new method of satellite image processing which integrates spatial and spectral information for satellite image process. This approach make use of spectral, environmental, physical and geometrical characte...
